What is Wallet Address?

A wallet address is a string of characters 42 characters on Ethereum, starting with 0x that serves as your public identifier on a blockchain. It is derived from your public key via hashing and is safe to share publicly.

How does Wallet Address work?

  1. Your private key generates a public key via elliptic curve mathematics.
  2. The public key is hashed to produce your wallet address.
  3. Others send funds to your address; you prove ownership by signing with your private key.
  4. A single seed phrase can generate many independent addresses for different purposes.

Why does Wallet Address matter?

It enables permissionless value transfer no bank account or identity verification required to receive funds. However, sending to a wrong address means permanent loss with no reversal.

  • Public and safe to share does not reveal the private key
  • Derived from public key, unique per wallet
  • All transactions to and from it are publicly auditable
  • Pseudonymous address does not reveal identity unless linked by user
