What is Floor Price?

The floor price is the lowest price at which an NFT in a specific collection can be purchased on a marketplace. It represents the "entry-level" cost for someone wanting to join that community or own a piece of that project.

How does Floor Price work?

  1. Marketplace users list their NFTs for sale at various prices.
  2. The marketplace identifies the lowest active listing for the entire collection.
  3. This minimum value becomes the "floor price."
  4. If the lowest-priced NFT is sold or delisted, the next lowest listing becomes the new floor.
  5. Floor prices are highly dynamic and react instantly to changes in supply and market sentiment.

Why does Floor Price matter?

Floor price is the primary metric used to value an NFT collection's health and popularity. It provides a simple benchmark for investors to track whether a project is gaining or losing value and helps determine the "liquid" value of common (non-rare) items within a set.

Key features of Floor Price

  • Real-time indicator of project demand
  • Represents the minimum "buy-in" cost
  • Primarily applies to the most common items in a collection
  • Highly susceptible to "floor sweeps" (mass buying of the cheapest items)
  • Used to calculate a collection's "market cap"

Examples of Floor Price

If the cheapest Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT available on OpenSea is listed for 30 ETH, then the floor price for the entire collection is 30 ETH, even if rarer Apes in the same collection are listed for 500 ETH.
